Window of Opportunity

“Window of Opportunity" is the story of one person’s journey through the initial signs of cognitive impairment associated with Parkinson’s disease and the uncertainty of a future that includes a significant probability of dementia. The book is a tribute to someone who is able to maintain a positive orientation despite the threat of something as devastatingly frightening as dementia. It is also a journey of discovery as Kirk transitions into the healing aspects of giving back to the Parkinson’s community through helping others and sharing his story. Most powerful of all, are the insights into how dealing with the potential for a terminal diagnosis can turn into a “window of opportunity” to contribute in a meaningful way to the body of knowledge about a disease and to help others on a similar path.

"This book offers a real-world honest and helpful window into the life of a Parkinson's disease patient who is experiencing cognitive challenges.  I highly recommend this book." Michael S. Okun, MD, Medical Director, National Parkinson Foundation

Carson and His Shaky Paws Grampa

A “gentle” introduction to the subjects of Parkinson’s disease (PD) and deep brain stimulation (DBS) therapy featuring illustrations by fellow PWP, Alison Paolini, this book tells the uplifting story (in 7-year old Carson’s voice) of how their relationship developed and how “Grampa” chose to communicate with him regarding his illness and planned “special procedure” that will stop his shaking. Includes tips for communicating with children, information regarding PD and DBS, and a comprehensive list of PD resources.

"Hall has done an excellent job of convincing the reader that anyone, even an outdoorsman like Grampa Hall, can get Parkinson's. Hall also shows how the disease can be managed successfully, without getting into the medical details. This is a delightful, "must have" for children and grandchildren of those diagnosed with Parkinson's."

Carina and Her Care Partner Gramma

A somewhat more “in-depth” look at Parkinson’s (once again with beautiful illustrations by Alison Paolini) that can be used as a communication tool with children. This book focuses, using Carina’s “voice”, on the relationship between “Gramma” and one of her granddaughters who has been living in China. Topics covered include Gramma’s very important role as care partner to Grampa, their involvement in research studies that will help others with PD, the importance of exercise for people with PD, and more. Also includes tips for communicating with children, information regarding PD and the role of care partners, and a comprehensive list of PD resources.

"A must read for young and old together who cherish a simple and gentle way to stimulate curiosity and dialogue about Parkinson's Disease." Peter Davison, International Motivational Speaker and early onset PWP father of two preschool children

Footprints: A Memoir

This memoir is a collection of stories and thoughts that I had written for my sons. I also wanted to share some important things I have observed and learned along the way, including the impact Parkinson's disease has had on my life. I would love to know more about my ancestors, so if any of this material gets passed down to future generations, I think that would be great. I am publishing this “lightly-edited” version for those who may have interest in knowing more about my life after reading any or all of my PD-related books. Additionally, I hope it might stimulate ideas for those who may be thinking about writing their own memoir.

This book is only available in ebook (Available formats: epub, mobi, pdf, rtf, lrf, pdb, txt, html)
